I suck at poker

It’s actually embarrassing how bad I played tonight. First I lost with pocket aces. I bet a measly $10 pre-flop and a couple guys called. My aces got to be good (or so I think) when a 5, 7, 9 flop out. And duh, of course one guy is hiding his good fortune🙈 (smiling his ass off with a 6,8 in his hand). I proceed to lose a bundle on that one. So I build back. Play smart. Win a bunch of hands. Monkey see monkey do 🐵 Yet no sooner am I back on top then I go and do something stupid again. Pocket 8s. I bet ‘em hard. One caller. Flop comes. 7,10, Jack. Fuck it i say. Bet big again. It’s just me and him. The ‘Turn’ comes and it’s an 8!! I have trips! Man I’m good. So blindsided to the reality of his ridiculous ‘All-In’. And right there, before God and everyone, he reveals his pocket 9s for the win. How could I be so stupid?! I got up, put my jacket and left the table. vowing to myself, never to come back to Harrah’s Cherokee Casino to play poker again. 🐒

end of watch

A Roswell police officer, just 24 years old, was shot and killed outside a local supermarket while responding to a dispatch for a “suspicious looking individual”. I took this picture of Stephanie as we walked to his procession. It was a befittingly somber and rainy day. The umbrella she’s holding has a significance all of its own but that’s a story for another day. This is such a sad time for our Police force and our community as we collectively mourn the senseless death of Officer Jeremy LaBonte

It’s the middle of February already . Short month but the year is going fast. Yesterday was valentines and a special one at that. Steph and I wrote cards, baked lasagna and put together a 500 piece puzzle of vintage love notes. I splurged on a waxy red bottle of Belle Glos (just for me of course) and for desert we indulged in some exquisite truffles from Chef Brûlée. All in all, a pretty romantic evening for an old married couple of 20+ years 🥰

i did it!

Dry January complete! My calendar tracker proved to be a fun, accountable way to chart the days. Looking back on it now, it’s neat to see the simplicity and highlights of the month. Little things like coffee, ice cream, or football on TV really seem to emphasize the joy and smiley faces I found in each day. While I didn’t lose any weight in the process, I must admit I feel great and relations at home haven’t been this good in a while. From my last entry, you can see I don’t intend to carry on forever, but I do expect to adjust certain behavioral patterns and take this positive energy into February and beyond. Off to a good start!
