Jack Straw

Went shopping today at my favorite store Jack Straw. I can seldom afford it but he was running a two day 70% off sale. I got pieces from Japan, Italy and New York. All marked down. All very fashionable. He’s got a great space with great style and it makes for a relatively painless way to try stuff on and see what fits. Plus, I kept telling myself, I’m going to look good in this once I get my new job.

Down syndrome

Tuesday morning seems to be when all the local islanders with Down Syndrome come to the pool. I finished my laps on one side, then sat in the jacuzzi, watching, while they reveled in the water. One guy with loud, unintelligible groans that could only be construed as sheer delight as he bopped an inflatable to and fro. Later, I sat in the moist, soupy fog of the steam room with another guy who made more muted, but no less discernible auditory expressions of sensory exhalation. And in the locker room, as I was preparing to go, three more guys were toweling off, getting dressed and engaged in the most riveting yet completely incomprehensible conversation I’ve ever witnessed.

The whole experience was magical from beginning till end. I’ll have to remember Tuesday mornings at the aquatic center.

Trump

News of the day is all about Trump. Inaugurated only yesterday as our 45th President it’s been a sh*t show already. Marches are being conducted across the country, predominantly by women, with the D.C. one topping 1 million. Steph was planning on going to Seattle this morning for the march here but something came up last minute.

we stayed riveted to the TV and Facebook instead.

Amazon

I have an interview in Seattle tomorrow with Amazon Web Services and I’m growing increasingly contemplative on what it might mean to work there. The role itself sounds quite juicy and it would afford me a unique opportunity to develop and grow alongside the team. I think if I can come away having instilled a sense of rapport and confidence in my aptitude, I think my chances of progressing are high.

Homecoming

Steph and the kids get home late tonight. Ice in Atlanta delayed their flight by a couple hours so I bet they’ll be exhausted when I finally pick them up off the ferry. As for me, it was a productive day so far. I did yoga this morn. Then cleaned sheets and laundry, did dishes, disposed of xmas tree and vacuumed. Now I’m watching the Seattle Seahawks in the playoffs next door at the Treehouse. My buddy Aquila should be here soon.
