spring break top 10

Bike riding the trails thru watercolor and seaside. Cooking breakfast and watching the kids start to operate by themselves. Grilled oysters with a buddy at Bud & Alleys. Grabbing a beer with my neighbor Gabe down at Grayton Beach. Access to a golf cart. Treating the kids to a hydrofoil excursion. Grooving to music and feeing high all by myself. Sipping a frose while buying two new pairs of shoes. Watching the waves on a windy beach with Steph. Narrowly avoiding what could’ve been a much worse incident with Julian and a run-in with the cops. Seeing the “morning after pill” on our kitchen counter, wondering which of the boys did it and so carelessly left it there. (Jules didn’t say other than it wasn’t his)

wednesday

trip is going pretty well so far. The boys made their own breakfast this morning. Steph has organized the laundry duties. And outside of some minor cuts and bruises and temporary tattoos, they are relatively unscathed. I’ve been sending the moms back home a daily pic on our group chat. Actually, of all the boys, it was only Julian that had a real run in with the law. I won’t even get into it. That’s a story for him and his mom to tell.

April fools

Sophia called while I was walking around Grayton Beach. I knew she was heading to San Antonio to try for her drivers license exam, for the 3rd time! The first two times she didn’t even get behind the wheel as they wouldn’t accept her residency documentation. So there was a lot riding on this, especially as a friend drove her the two hours away from Austin to even make this happen.
Before I could even ask…
“Dad. I didn’t pass”, she said.
Right away I felt myself growing disheartened. I just can’t help myself. I didn’t know what to say.
“What did you do wrong?”, I asked.
“A lot”, she exclaimed. “I forgot to turn on my blinker. And they got me speeding.”.
My god I’m thinking. This girl is never gonna get her license. I sit there in this thought for a moment and then she hits me with it.

“April Fools!!”

Good one Phi. And congrats on the license. Watch out Texas!
